The 8th Large Asian River International Symposium

The 8th Large Asian River International Symposium (LARIS) will be held in Bangladesh from 21 to 28 February 2027. Organized by the Large Asian River Committee, the symposium will bring together researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and students working on the science and sustainable management of large river systems in Asia and beyond.

The symposium will provide an interdisciplinary platform for sharing new findings on river evolution, hydrology, sediment transport, fluvial geomorphology, climate change, flood and erosion hazards, riverine ecosystems, human–river interactions, and river-basin management. It will also promote long-term cooperation among universities, research institutions, government agencies, and international organizations.

The programme will combine academic sessions with a field excursion to the Brahmaputra–Jamuna River system in Bangladesh. Participants will have opportunities to examine braided-channel dynamics, sediment transport, bank erosion and accretion, floodplain and char development, river management, and the relationships between river change and local communities.
